先日設置した標識の内容は次の通りです
八 畳 岩 Hacho rock
(はっちょういわ)
この岩の表面には天狗の足跡と呼ばれる数個の窪みがあり、盤座(いわくら)と思われます。
記録では、神武天皇が260艘の船団を率いて東征した際、草津港が基地とされていました。
The surface of Hacho rock there are some hollows called footprints of Tengu it is called Iwakura.According to a record when Emperor Jinmu conquered the East with 260 ships base was Kusatsu port .
当時は海が眼下の草津八幡宮の鳥居付近まで迫り、海岸線は己斐、可部、祇園まで達していました。
At that time seashore was closed to Shrine of Kusatsu Hachimangu and reached to Koi. Kabe and Gion.
草津港は力箭山で西風を防ぐことができ、波が穏やかで天然の良港でした。
Kusatsu port was peaceful and good natural harbor because to prevent a west wind by Mt.Rikisen. You can see the Hacho rock from the ship entering Kusatsu port.
この八畳岩は、草津港に入った船から正面に見え、草津八幡宮の奥の院として、宇佐島、奥津島、市杵島の三女神とスサノオノミコトが祭られていたようです。
Three goddess called Usajima, Okuthujima, Ichikijima and Susanono-Mikoto were enshrind as inner sanctuary of Kusatsu Hachimangu.
鬼ヶ城山頂の東斜面を少し下がったところに小八畳岩が確認できました。
Kohacho rock was confirmed where east hill side from the top of Mt. Onigajo.
伝説によると二枚の岩は一枚であったが、ある時地震で半分に割れ、半分が落下して小八畳岩になったそうです。
According to a tradition the Hacho rock was broken into two pieces by earthquake one piece of rock fell down and it turned Kohacho rock.
